Why “Cottage Quilting on Superior”?
I grew up in the Muskoka area in Central Ontario Canada and living on a lake was a cottage! I have the privilege of living on beautiful Lake Superior!!
I started quilting about 15 years ago and boy have I found my passion… After being in the dental field for over 35 years it was time for a change and I found the art of quilting and never looked back.
I have gone from making simple wall hangings to king size quilts , rag quilts, and baby quilts galore. I have designed wall hangings to commemorate the local Bluesfest and the girl guides which is an organization I have been a part of for over 40 years, including 'my' girl years.
I have traveled all through Europe and Mexico with girls and guiders, what an experience! I decided to make myself a t-shirt quilt telling my own Girl Guide story and experiences.
I have always liked to make “homemade gifts” for weddings, babies and other special occasions…the thrill I get when I see the smile on the recipients face! I like to make one-of-a kind quilts working with colour and using different blocks. Baby quilts I like to embroider their names on it as a keepsake!

The Bluesfest quilt I just made was part of a raffle raising money for the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium Foundation..I designed it and was very proud of the outcome and received many compliments.
I finally joined the local Guild and have learned so much from them….we have some very talented quilters in our great city! I participated in our local bi-annual quilt show with six of my quilts and my tuffet! It was amazing and I was glad to be a part of it!

I have taken many classes and workshops ….you never stop learning and I like to share what I have learned.
I keep an eye on youtube and pinterest and frequent the sites often. I am married with 2 grown children , one grandson and one on the way and you can be assured “Nanny makes lots of quilts for them”. I am one proud Nanny!
In the past if have done lots of different crafting but quilting is my favourite! The opportunities are endless…..
My grandmother till she was 95 took part with her fellow quilters doing hand stitch quilting…so I guess maybe it is in my blood!
I prefer to consult with a client to see what they want and come back with ideas and possible a drawing (I quilt better than I draw lol) prior to purchasing and obviously cutting fabric. I take pride in my work and I prefer not to have deadlines….designing a one of a kind takes time! I prefer to purchase good quality material as I call "quilt store fabric". I frequent the many quilt stores in Northwestern Ontario and visiting my daughter in southern
Ontario I manage to get a visit in there as well. I do some shopping on line but prefer to support the Local quilt stores. I have gone to quilt retreats and visited Quilt Canada 2017 in Toronto- it's fun to see some of the Beautiful work that is out there and the inspiration it gives you to get back to your studio and Create!
